September 2006

First, everything’s ok. No one got hurt, John, me and the kitties are all fine.

Thursday morning at 5 AM, I got a phone call. Irritated that someone would call me that early, I picked up the phone to have a woman ask me if I lived at 2313 and if I was the homeowner. I said I was and she goes:

“Now, don’t panic, but there’s someone in your house. We have the house surrounded and the police are going to try to make entry. Is your bedroom door locked?”

Of course it wasn’t, so I wake John up and try to convey this to him without him freaking out and he gets up and locked the door.

Turns out that on the street behind us, a man went out to pick up his newspaper and saw someone trying to break into his neighbor’s car. He looked the other way like he didn’t see anything, and then called the neighbor and let him know, and also flipped on his porch light which scared the guy off on his bicycle, of all things.. The two neighbors called the police and then drove around the neighborhood looking for the guy and saw his bike in our yard and our garage door opened. The guy had broken into the durango, opened the garage door with the programmable console button and was inside our house. Not knowing what to do, the neighbor went into the garage and rang the doorbell and then walked back away to the street. The intruder poked his head out of the door (not the smartest guy in the world, I imagine he was looking to see if he could get to his bicycle) and when he saw the two neighbors, he took off through the back of the house. One of the neighbors said he had a black t-shirt and a mesh mask on (which I think bothers me more than anything). And then the police called us.

It looks like he wasn’t in the house for very long, he walked right past my purse and the durango key and it looks like the only thing he took was some money from John’s desk. I keep telling people it was the best possible burglary. So we’re both a little freaked out but otherwise OK, and we’re both way more cautious about setting our alarm and we’re deprogramming the garage door thingy. God only knows what that nutjob was up to.

I finally found this pick of Stevie, it was driving me crazy! I thought I had lost it forever when my computer crashed. Thank God I actually backed something up for once in my life.

1. I hate cashews.
2. I can’t decide if I’m more addicted to blogging or myspace.
3. I hate computers way too much to be a software engineer.
4. My biggest pet peeve is time left on the microwave. Like when someone puts food in for 30 seconds and pulls it out at 10 seconds and just leaves “:10” on the display
5. I miss my cat.
6. If I could bathe in chocolate, I would.
7. My friend Michael has picked this up as a hobby:

8. This makes me very very proud to be an Auburn girl:

9. I think this is super-cool: (go to my Heritage to try it)

10. I can’t wait until this weekend :)

Stevie went to his big cat tree in the sky Friday. God love him, he was a good cat. You know, he came into our lives for a brief time, and I know we were just at the right spot at the right time to be able to help him. He was an old kittie cat when we found him, and I always knew he wouldn’t be with us long. Still as I sit here smiling at the thought that he can finally see and can finally chase the angel mice that I know he missed out on in his life I can’t help but cry as I write this. He was our sweet dollbaby blind kittie cat and I miss him everytime I walk outside by the azalea bush he used to sleep under, and even walk near our pond that he used to drink out of. He would come trotting over to us, so happy that someone loved him, and we both did so much. I hope wherever he is, that he’s finally getting the life he deserved, Lord only knows what that cat saw before he came to us.

My Mom has a prayer she says for any animal that dies, even the little chipmunks and mice that she sometimes finds. She was on her way over from work yesterday and got to our house shortly after he passed away and said it with me in the kitchen, God love her - “God, take our sweet Stevie into Your loving arms, and let us see him again someday.” God bless her, we’re going to have like five thousand cats waiting for us when we get there… not a bad thought, really.

At least for the time being… This made a huge casserole of food, and
it was OH SO GOOD.

Takes about 8 minutes to make, 25 to bake, and you can put it together
way ahead of time and bake it just before dinner.

Wayne’s Beef Macaroni and Cheese

Recipe courtesy Paula Deen

1-pound box elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 cups chopped green bell pepper
2 cups chopped onion
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
2 pounds lean ground beef
3 cups canned crushed tomatoes
Salt and pepper
1 teaspoon each dried basil, ground cumin, and dried oregano
2 to 3 cups grated Cheddar

Heat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Cook the macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside.
Heat the oil in a skillet; add the peppers, onion, and garlic, and saute
until soft. Add the ground beef and saute until browned. Add the
tomatoes, salt and pepper, to taste, and the basil, cumin, and oregano.
In a large bowl, combine the macaroni and the beef mixture. Spread this
mixture into a 9 by 13-inch baking dish. Top with the cheese and bake
for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese is lightly browned and bubbly.

Cook’s Note: Ground turkey or chicken can be used in place of beef, if
desired.

Our new friend…

The last pictures of the kitties my mom is taking care of; we’re listing them in the paper tomorrow…

And the reason Decatur isn’t so bad… This was my view on the way to work this morning…

I was wiping my eyes and I reached over to the tissues next to the sink and this is what greeted me…

It’s time to go home…

Have a great Friday everyone!!

No one tagged me, I felt left out and I’m bored in Atlanta…

1. My hotel room is 5000 degrees
2. Law and Order is not as good without John
3. Vault Zero is NOT good
4. I hate when songs start out sounding completely different than they are (Ridin’ Dirty, Ain’t No Other Man…)
5. We need a lake house
6. I miss Auburn more than I thought I did.
7. I miss home more than I thought I did.
8. Austrailian money is way cooler than ours. They did away with the penny and with dollar bills, and all of their money is a different size and color, so even if you’re blind, you can tell what money you have.
9. My Austrailian coworker who is here, too, told me a story about Ray Charles that once he thought he was getting paid 50 dollars with 5 ten dollar bills but instead the guy gave him 5 ones and he couldn’t tell the difference. From then on, he made people pay him in one dollar bills.
10. It’s nearly impossible to lose weight when your company will pay for dinner and drinks at Outback Steakhouse.

I’m going to post some Auburn pictures to our website here in the next few hours, if you want to see them, check out these

Love you girls….

Oh, just one more day til football season!! (At least for us, Mississippi State and South Carolina played last night…). I’m so excited!!

John and I are going to the game tomorrow, my good friend Rachel had extra tickets that she offered to us and I kind of committed us to going without talking to John first, but when I called him to ask if we could go, it turns out HE had already gotten tickets through some friends of his and was going to surprise me with them…

They’re on the 10 yard line 43 rows up!! Super, super-excited.

I’m going to take my camera, I’ll post some pictures up here this weekend. I miss Auburn horribly and can’t wait to see how much it’s changed, there’s new buildings popping up all the time. I have my little alumni pin ready to get into the alumni tent (which actually rocks, free hot dogs and drinks and a bunch of little free giveaways, keychains and such.). I made my second to last payment yesterday on my lifetime membership. When I started it was 500 bucks if you paid in full or 110 a year for 5 years, and it’s 50 bucks a year if you just pay by the year, so for 55 more dollars I could get lifetime and never have to pay again, but I tell you I hate that 110 payment. It’s gone up to 640 now or 720 if you pay by the year so I guess I’m glad I did it when I did.

Either way, I’m excited. The weather has cooled off a TON, and it’s time for football…
