December 2006

Yes, we have a large cucumber this week. I hope Baby D isn’t green…

And yay! Lauren’s here! Check out her blog through her comment on the Happy Christmas post, it’s super-cute. Another of the top 10 weddings of 2006. :) I don’t know why we all chose 2006 to get married, but a ton of my friends did…

So updates on the little one. First, I think I’m 3 days further along than I previously thought. I was looking at my little fertility calendar and apparently I should have been counting from August 16 instead of August 19. I’m not telling my doctor though, if I go over I don’t want to be induced, and that’ll buy me three more days.

So anyway, I have a friend who’s about a week behind me baby-wise. She’s due May 31st. She lives in Birmingham, and I’m sure they aren’t like my doctor and schedule ultrasounds way in advance instead of waiting til the last minute. So the other week, she said she was getting hers Jan 8th, and when was I getting mine? Oh, I don’t know. One of these days.

So skip to my doctor’s appointment Friday. He put on the little form to give the receptionist to schedule the appointment for “2 weeks” which would be somewhere around the 12th. Oh, come on. I was pregnant first after all… :) So the cute little receptionist girl responded to our gentle prodding and scheduled our appointment for the 8th, too. All’s fair in love and ultrasounds, right?

Given my mild hatred of computers on my holidays, this will probably be the last blog before Christmas and I just wanted to tell all of you Happy Christmas. Which reminds me, I need to watch Harry Potter 1 again, such a great Christmas-y movie.

I hope all of you, old friends, new friends, lurkers, whoever, a great holiday filled with tons of food, lots of friends and family and TONS of relaxation. Lord knows we all need it.

I’ll be back December 29th, at least, to let everyone know when our big ULTRASOUND is, I’ll need some friends to expediate the wait. I’m glad he’ll schedule it for 1-2 weeks later instead of like 5 weeks down the road. I’d think I’d die. And then right after that, the 4D ultrasound is at 26 weeks and I can’t WAIT to see our little one :) So that’s something to look forward to, at least on my side.

Have a safe and happy holiday everyone…

Happy 4 months, little one.

Baby D is the size of a large onion, 5 inches long and 5 ounces. (Heavier than Lucy, our bird, finally :) )

First, I’m so glad everyone’s commenting (and liking cookies, the common bond that apparently connects us all…) it’s good to hear from all of you.

Also, to Candi, it’s hard to believe I’m pregnant, too. When I look down in the shower and see this big belly sticking out for reasons besides a big dinner, it seems surreal. I still feel like a kid, too. :)

On to the blog…

Yesterday was our 1 year anniversary. So Happy Anniversary to us. It’s been an amazing year filled with ups and downs (lots of ups) and great, great times. We had big plans (as you may know) to go to GianMarco’s but we decided to celebrate in classic John and Colleen style; in our jammies watching football and eating Big Bob Gibson’s.

And, John got me THIS:

The NEW NIKON D80! I’m so pumped. The less than in-the-know salesgirl at Best Buy recommended the wrong memory card for us, so I CAN’T TAKE ANY PICTURES YET! What a bummer. I’m still pumped though. It takes pictures so much faster than my other camera (which is still a great camera). I can’t wait to use it (today, hopefully) but I have no idea what I’m going to take pictures of :)

And finally, since I’m off next week and my job involves sitting in front of a computer all day, I doubt I’ll be in front of one for Ten on Tuesday, so this is my Ten on 2006.

Top Ten Events of 2006 (in the Dixon household, at least) in no particular order…

[1] Baby D - the wait is killing me!
[2] Firsts of everything with my hubby… First Thanksgiving, First Birthday, etc. etc…
[3] Roz’s wedding. I just adore KJ and of course love Roz, and was thrilled these two finally got together.
[4] Our Denver Trip
[5] Our North Carolina Trip
[6] Our Stevie. I still think about him whenever I have some leftover steak from dinner…
[7] Finally getting a (well-deserved, if I say so myself) promotion at work
[8] The burglary. That a**hole changed our lives forever, it seems.
[9] My Birthday. We took a long-awaited trip to Destin and got to spend it with Roz, which hardly ever happens.
[10] Our Anniversary. (And the camera :) ) I don’t know why the first one seems like such a big deal but it does.

Our cookie swap is in 12 minutes and I can’t wait. I’ll be sure to take a picture of the goodies…

This is a great one to make with kids, too, they can help push the ingredients down :)

Proudly announcing the launch of www.BabyD.JohnAndColleenDixon.com

It’s definately a work in progress, but we figured we eventually would need a new spot for our little one.

I imagine it will eventually morph into Kate.JohnAndColleenDixon.com or Jack.JohnAndColleenDixon.com or something of that nature once we know what in the world we’re having, other than it being human, which we’re pretty sure of.

Hope every one has a great Friday, as for me, I’m on a cookie-sugar high. Mom and Dad were making cookies last night to send to relatives, Divinity, Chocolate Candy, Orange Slice Cookies, Pecan Balls, and Date Bars. And that’s so only half of their cookie making arsenal. :) I LOVE the holidays!

OK, so my boobs are big. They were normal-sized before I got pregnant and now they’re borderline gargantuan. Last time I checked I was getting a little too big for a DD. I’m not overly self-concious of them, but I am a little cautious of what I wear, I don’t want to be the slutty pregnant girl.

So Friday I get two great shirts from motherhood maternity.

Cute right? So I get it big so it won’t be snug, but it turns out to be pretty snug anyway, but it’s cute. So Saturday we go down to watch UAB basketball, and end up at OT’s. Two conversations with my boobs. The first, by a not so uncrude guy, went something like this:

“Wow, those things are huge! How big have they gotten? They’re definately bigger than the last time I saw you…”

(In front of his girlfriend, mind you.)

“Yeah, well, that was the first thing that changed.”

(From his girlfriend…)”Have you felt the baby kicking yet?”

“Yeah, I leaned forward to look at my computer screen and apparently he didn’t like that much, so he kicked me…”

“Whoa, don’t talk about leaning over in front of ME, maybe I should get HER knocked up so her boobs will get that big.”

I kid you not. He was seriously talking to my boobs the whole time.

The next conversation wasn’t nearly as entertaining, something like “I can’t believe that guy had an entire conversation with my boobs” (And then, looking at my chest with bug eyes…)”What? I haven’t noticed.”

So there you have it ladies and gentleman… they got more attention than I did. :)

Ah, one day away from avocado-dom. From babycenter.com:

“At 4 1/2 inches long (head to bottom) and 3 1/2 ounces, your baby is about the size of an avocado. In the next three weeks, she’ll go through a tremendous growth spurt, though, doubling her weight and adding inches to her length.”

I’ve never been a huge fan of avocados, but I think I like this one.

And here’s a snapshot of the baby blanket I’ve been working on; not an easy feat with three yarn-crazy cats :)

Hopefully I can finish it by May, it’s really long, much longer than I think a baby is. Something like 155 stitches if you’re familiar with crochet. Which really isn’t a lot, but it seems like a lot for a tiny baby :)

And to anyone not familiar with the pigbear… Please vote for Miss Sarah Cobb in the baby gap contest! What Mom couldn’t use a year supply of Gap Clothes? :) And she’s just so stinking cute…

Please vote

(Bottom row in the center :) )

1. I feel like a big roly-poly. I seriously have to roll out of bed.

2. None of my t-shirts fit anymore, I’m wearing John’s Bama ones, if you can imagine that.

3. Nor do my jeans. :)

4. There was a game on the Ace and TJ show this morning, who would give them their child for 24 hours in exchange for a playstation 3. They said every phone was lit up.

5. I have half of my Christmas cards addressed, I’m only missing a few important addresses, like John’s mom.

6. I think people that live in Auburn and people from Decatur are the worst driver’s on the face of the planet.

7. I’m bored out of my mind at work, which is making this week go by very, very slowly.

8. We’re going to GianMarco’s for our anniversary in two weeks, and I’m super excited. John took me here for our first date and I had never been wined and dined before and this place is the ultimate for that. He ordered a bottle of wine, we had Carpaccio and Gorganzola Tortellini and Tirimisu. I thought I was in heaven. Definately swept me off my feet.

9. I’ve been obsessed with this blog lately. She’s 37 weeks pregnant and I think she’s gained 22 pounds. I’m impressed.

10. This blog and particularly this entry make me laugh a LOT.
