OK, so I got about 5 minutes in today for a photoshoot before Dashy pooed his britches… There’s a ton of obnoxious pictures posted on his website. Here’s one of them though…

Please ignore his big bird diapers… we’re doing the cloth diapering once I heal up and can actually do some laundry… for now it’s disposables. I couldn’t resist getting some of his poses, he has the best faces and poses I’ve ever seen…
We’re taking Dash to my job tomorrow to meet everyone… hopefully everything will go ok. Just a half hour car ride and an hour for lunch, so he may sleep right through it.

Dash had his 2 week checkup today… here’s how he measured up…
| |
Birth |
2 weeks |
| Weight |
9lbs 4oz |
9lbs 8oz |
| Height |
21 3/4 inches |
23 inches |
| Head Circum |
14 1/4 inches |
15 inches |
The doctor was really happy with his progress and so were we. I’m glad breastfeeding seems to be going well. It’s easy to make yourself feel really guilty since I’m the sole person responsible for what he eats. He had a PKU test today, too, which required a heel stick but he slept right through it, and we also had his hearing rechecked and he passed (he had failed the right ear and passed the left one at birth). So we don’t have to go back until he’s 2 months old. Yay for no more doctors for a while!!

We’re having a great day except John had to work, but that let grandma and grandpa come over and see Dashy. And it was a blissful prickfree morning.
How much do I love this guy???

TONS. And by the way, I’ll let you all know when I update his pictures so you don’t have to worry about checking that site all the time. I’m a slacker with the webpage but not the pictures, I think we have one of every day of his life so far. We’re trying to get all his poses captured, like this one.

and this one.

We truly have the best life ever. Enjoy your holiday everyone…

So yesterday his levels were up from 11.13 to 11.53 so we had to go back today and they called and told us they were still 11 and a half so to go back tomorrow and I swear I almost lost it. Dash is 12 days old and has had his foot pricked 11 days of the 12. The doctor called me back though (it was the on call one) and talked to me about it and was like, oh, well, they were down to 11.44 today so his body’s taking care of it… you don’t need to go back tomorrow… Thank God! We had seriously thought about just not going. So everything’s fine around here…

That’s the latest. Not much improvement, but hopefully tomorrow it’ll go down enough to get him off the lights. We’re shooting for 12, and since he wasn’t on them a full 24 hours and it dropped a point and a half, I’m hoping that with his improved nursing and 24 hours of lights that he’ll get down there by then. We’re doing ok, still hanging in there. He’s all laid out over there so he’s content. Pooing like a madman

So the lactation consultant finally called me back. I had weighed him this morning before and after his feeding and he ate 3 ounces. I told her he was taking 2-3 ozs every 3 hours or so, but he was sleeping through the night and we just couldnt’ get him to nurse. I mean, we’re irritating the crap out of this kid; waking him up, turning on the light, changing his diaper, whatever we can do to wake him up and he’s just not interested. Even yesterday when he was eating every 2 hours, he went from midnight til 7 with nothing. Anyway, that’s what she thinks the problem is; that he’s getting enough when he eats, he’s just not eating often enough. So we’re going for every 2 hours now. I’m supposed to get him to nurse in 15 minutes, and he’s in deep dream state, with his eyes twitching and stuff, so I have a feeling it’s not going to go well. She said he should gain 1/2 oz to 2 ozs each day, and he isn’t. He’s not losing now, he’s staying the same. So that’s our goal today, to fatten this poor guy up.
I still haven’t gotten the billi test results back yet, I’m sure he still is pretty high, the white’s of his eyes are no where near white, so I’m sure he’ll still be on the light through today. He did NOT like that heel stick this morning either. It was right when he was supposed to eat and she didn’t do anything to warm his heel up like they do at the doctor’s office so she really had to squeeze it. Not a happy camper.
I’ll let you know when we get the levels back, I’m guessing it’s going to be around 14 or so…

So it’s 11:30 and I have no idea why I’m up. It’s not baby related at all.
We’re doing good; Dash continued to like the billi blanket so that makes it a ton easier on me. He’s still feeding every 2 hours or so, and we weighed him last time and he gained 2 oz from nursing so I think he’s doing well. We’re still supplementing, too, so I think he’s getting a ton. He’s going to be a 10 pounder by the end of the week at this rate.
I have a feeling he’s nursing so much because the light dehydrates him. That’s what the nurse said at least. I’m hoping that coincidentaly my milk supply got established and he got the hang of nursing. We’ll see.
We gave him his first bath tonite which was really sweet. John held him and I had three washrags going, a soapy one, a wet one and a dry one, and a sinkful of warm water and we just washed one part at a time. He seemed to enjoy it.
And John and I had a good time. His hair’s all fuzzy now, it’s really cute. We decided to do it tonite because we’d get to hold him longer out of the billi lights. Sneaky, I know.
I still haven’t heard from the LC. Some LC, I guess
I think we’re fine though. I found that if I pinch my boob first and get something for him to latch onto going, he does a lot better. Not so much fun for me, but works for him, so what the hell. And Amy, you’re right, pumping has seemed to help my milk supply. I’ve been laying off this afternoon because he’s been eating so frequently that I”m afraid I’ll pump too much off, but I’m picking back up tonite. We need to get a supply going anyway for when I go back to work. Or go on a margarita binge.
I’ll update again tomorrow after we get the lab results. I’m guessing around noon, but I have no idea.
